ABOUT THE COURSE

Capstone Academy is excited to announce the launch of the Capstone Exam Preparation Online Course (Capstone Preparation).

Capstone Preparation is a self-learning, appropriately paced and supported online course that runs for 8 weeks. It is designed to run in small groups with continued support throughout the course.

This course is designed to place you in the best position possible to succeed in passing the exam, offering a number of practical modules throughout the program.

THE COURSE STRUCTURE

Capstone Preparation has been designed to simulate the Capstone Exam. The format of the Capstone Preparation is divided into the following modules:

  • Introduction 
    • Participation in a two hour live tutorial that will cover:
      • LEGEND Training
      • Overview of the Code of Conduct
      • Tips, tricks and recommendations for approaching the Capstone.
      • Key mistakes made in the Capstone.
      • Self-assessment questionnaire (to be completed on the student’s own time).

This introductory module will outline the objectives of the Capstone Preparation; the level of participation and volume of work that students are expected to undertake in each module; together with the support and guidance students will receive during the 8 week course. We strongly recommend that students undertake further study in addition to the Capstone Preparation to prepare for the Capstone. 

Learning outcomes:

  • Understand the structure of the Capstone, Capstone Preparation and the wider implications in relation to the students’ career as a Registered Migration Agent;
  • Develop effective and best practice study and exam preparation techniques;
  • Identify obstacles, challenges and/ or weaknesses in one’s learning capacity and develop appropriate solutions to address deficiencies;
  • Identify strengths in one’s learning capacity and utilise those attributes to achieve the desired outcome in the Capstone Preparation and Capstone; and
  • Enhance skills associated with interpreting the Migration and Citizenship Act and Regulations and applying this knowledge to practical situations.
  • Module 1: Multiple choice and short answer questions
    • Students will have two weeks to complete three practice written assessments that each consist of 25 multiple choice and three short answer questions.  Short answer questions will require students to analyse a case or a scenario and formulate viable solutions based on the facts provided
    • Participation in 2 x two hour live tutorial giving you the opportunity to enhance your knowledge even further. The tutorial will address common pitfalls and provide tips on how to best tackle this part of the exam.

Module 2 provides students an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth), the Migration Regulations 1994 (Cth), the Policy Advice Manual (PAM) and the various legislative provisions, through a series of multiple choice questions. Students will also be able to apply their knowledge to a number of short answer questions.

Learning outcomes:

  •  Broaden understanding of the relevant legislative provisions underpinning the Australian Migration Law framework;
  • Develop sound research and legal interpretation skills in relation to the applicable migration regulations;
  • Broaden understanding of the RMA/client relationship;
  • Become familiar with fiduciary duty RMA has with a client and practical implications;
  • Advise clients accordingly in relation to visa options; and
  • Utilise multiple sources including Legendcom, the Code of Conduct and other material to formulate responses
  • Module 2: Written Assessment
    • Students will have two weeks to complete three practice written assessments that each consist of two case studies. 
    • Participation in a 3 x two hour live tutorials.  This tutorial will discuss strengths and possible improvements that you could adopt before the real test begins.

Learning outcomes:

  •  Broaden understanding of the relevant legislative provisions underpinning the Australian Migration Law framework;
  • Develop sound research and legal interpretation skills in relation to the applicable migration regulations;
  • Advise clients accordingly in relation to visa options and sound strategies to promote their clients’ legitimate migration objectives; 
  • Enhance their written skills by testing their advice writing methodologies;
  • Identify key issues in complex case scenarios and provide advice based on the information provided; 
  • Broaden understanding of the RMA/client relationship; and
  • Become familiar with fiduciary duty RMA has with a client and practical implications. 
  • Module 3: Oral Assessment
    • Students will have two weeks to complete two oral assessments.
    • Participation in a two hour live tutorial.

Students are required to partner with a fellow student and practice two case scenarios. It is recommended that students record these sessions in order to review and provide feedback to one another.  The purpose of this activity is to enhance and further develop critical communication and listening skills required to provide sufficient advice.

Learning outcomes:

  •  Develop strong oral communication skills and the ability to advise clients’ on complex legal issues;
  • Develop rapport with clients and broaden understanding of the RMA/ client relationship; and
  • Identifying issues and roadblocks to communications with potential clients and how to manage expectations and mitigate conflict.
  • Concluding presentation:
    • Participation in a two hour final tutorial.  This is your opportunity to ask the panel any questions before you sit your exam. It is also an opportunity to seek clarification in relation to any of the modules completed during the program.
    • It is the objective of the Capstone Preparation that students feel confident and capable in completing the Capstone

MATERIALS

Course materials are all accessible online through our proprietary learning platform. We will provide instructions and guidance on how to navigate the learning platform and how to progress through the modules. 

Live tutorials will be scheduled upon commencement of the course (per intake period) and a zoom meeting link will be emailed separately to each student at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled tutorial.  Your zoom link will be personalized and is unique to you.

  • Tutorial: Module 2 (2 hours) on Mon, 29 May 2023 at 6pm.
  • Tutorial: Module 2 (2 hours) on Sat 3 June 2023 at 9:30am.
  • Tutorial: Module 3 (2 hours) on Mon 12 June 2023 at 6pm.
  • Bonus Tutorial (2 hours) on Sat 17 June 2023 at 9:30am
  • Final tutorial (2 hours) on Sat 24 June 2023 at 9:30am.
  • Last day to access and review course materials on 20 July 2023
